RiposteCoder is a tool for analysing fencing bouts. This page says exactly what it
stores, where, and who can see it. It is written to be read, not to cover us.
What is stored
- Your email address, because an account needs one.
- Your coding — the time of each touch, the strip zone, who won it, why it
was lost, the action each fencer used, and any notes you type.
- What a clip refers to — a YouTube link, or a fingerprint of a local video
file. A fingerprint is a short hash used to recognise the same file again.
- Names you type for the fencers in a bout, if you choose to type them.
- Comments left on a bout you shared, along with the account that left them.
What is not stored
- Video files never leave your device. A local file is read in your browser
to play it and to compute its fingerprint. It is not uploaded anywhere.
- A YouTube clip stores only the link. The video stays on YouTube.
- There is no analytics, no tracking and no advertising of any kind. Nothing
on this site profiles you or follows you elsewhere.
Who can see it
Only you, unless you choose to share. Every record is tied to your account and the
database refuses access to anyone else — that is enforced by the database itself, not
by the page.
When you create a share link, anyone holding that link can watch that one
bout and read its coding and notes. A link is a key: treat it the way you would treat
the video. Links can be set to expire and can be revoked at any time, which stops them
working immediately.
Videos of young fencers
Bouts often feature minors. Accounts are for adults, and sign-up is currently by
invitation only. If you share a bout, share it only with people already entitled to
see that video — a coach, a parent, the fencer. We cannot tell who has been given a
link, so that judgement is yours.
Who else is involved
- Supabase stores the data and handles sign-in.
- Netlify serves this site.
- jsDelivr serves one JavaScript library used for sign-in.
- Google Fonts serves the typeface.
- YouTube, only if you open a YouTube clip. Their player is theirs, and it
may set cookies of its own. Nothing about your coding is sent to them.
Deleting things
Delete any clip from the library and its coding and comments go with it. To delete your
account and everything attached to it, email us and we will do it.
You can also export everything you have coded to a file on your own machine at any
time, from the library.
